In the mood

For lots of white! Isn't this room just dreamy with all it's white goodness? This would be great if you didn't have children or pets or people with dirt anywhere on them. Just kidding, kinda, I always think an all white room looks amazing and so want to do it but in the back of my head I am thinking how would that stay clean?!!!! Oh well I can just appreciate what I don't have. : )

Goodwill finds and new pillows

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I thought we could start this week off with some treasures I found at Goodwill (if you haven't realized it by now, I am addicted!) and some pillows my sister and I made.

I spotted this little beauty at the GW (Goodwill) and had to make her mine. Right now she is siting on the "wine rack" by the front door to catch any spare change, keys, etc.
I also found this amazing vase there as well. I LOVE it! When I got it home and began the ritual of washing and disinfecting the side of the thing broke off! Since then I have glued it back together but I am not sure if I will keep it or not. So bummed!
I found this fun platter from another trip to the GW a couple of weeks ago and so far no breakage. I am so into floral right now! Can you tell?!!!

And here ladies and gentlemen are my new handmade pillows my sister and I worked on and finished the end of last week. I am so pleased with them and the fact that we finally used my sister's virgin sewing machine! Worked like a charm.

The funny story behind this chevron pillow is that I saw the EXACT same pillow at the Home Depot! I can't believe it. I bought the fabric at JoAnns, and I am totally stunned! So if you want one of your own, head to your local Home Depot where they have the outside version for sale.

I finally moved my H from the mantel. Not many things can fit there because it is really narrow. However I thought it was time for a bit of a change so I put my vintage clock there for now.

Oh babies, I just want a ton

I love babies so much I just can't stand it sometimes! This is a picture of my sweet baby nephew Marcus (who is exactly one year younger than Evelette) and my daughter Evelette. I babysit him three days a week while his Mommy goes to work. He absolutely loves to be moving so I for see many many walks this Summer!
Here's Evie playing around wearing Mr. Potato head glasses! I love her sense of humor, she totally cracks me up. It's amazing to watch her learn and grow, it's the most amazing thing. We would love to have a lot more babies and Richard and I are trying to get pregnant again. It hasn't been the easiest thing for us with two miscarriages (one right before getting pregnant with Evelette) and one a couple of months ago. If you think of us here and there, please say a little prayer. It is my hearts desire to be a Mama to many and we hope to adopt as well.
A wonderful saying that my Sister taught to me that she says to her kids when they are acting up is "Have a happy heart" Which is so right on. It is so important for our kids to make that decision to be happy and to choose Joy.
Hope these funny pics put a smile on your face! Luvs.

Saturday Morning Bliss

First guest blogger! Will from Bright Bazaar

Hello! It's Will from Bright.Bazaar here and I'm so excited to be guest posting on Leah's fantastically colourful blog. I remember when I discovered The Way We Are a few months ago and I've been addicted everyday since, so to be blogging here means a lot to me. Thanks, Leah!

Leah asked for the five things I always like to decorate with, so here goes with my list:

1. Fresh Flowers

I simply adore fresh blooms because they bring a great dynamic to the room and its scheme. One bunch of flowers can provide: perspective and a focal point for the room; a hit of colour - either an unexpected pop or a key accent to the room's colour scheme - which makes the space feel fun; and of course, they smell lovely!

2. Colour

Followers of my blog will know I'm a big advocate for the brightly coloured objects of this world, which means it will come as no surprise that I love to decorate with vibrant shades, too. I guess I love the dimension that colour adds to a room - it always helps to set the tone and feel of the space. I've been a huge fan of yellow this season, and this living room with it's fun pops and eclectic feel really calls out to me.

3. Stripes

Pattern is always key in my decor ideas, and more often than not I echo my wardrobe style (think GAP and J Crew striped shirts) in my decor schemes with stripes. I have an unhealthy obsession with them. I recently purchased two yellow and grey striped pillows from Zara Home, which are now on sale at £3.50 - bargain alert! They are also fab to use more dominantly in a scheme - my favourite example is in the wallpaper used on the ceiling in this swoonful scheme. Doesn't it look fun?!
4. Industrial textures

I think this is the part where I add some more masculine themes to my rooms, usually in the form of a pendant shade, chair or table lamp. I like the stylish edge that metallic textures and materials give to a space. Recently I've been really drawn to decorating with pendants like these (especially in a due form) and what I like to call It's Complicated-Style bakery chairs (wasn't the bakery decor in that film to die for?!)
5. Textiles

Finally, I always love to have plenty of welcoming and comfy textiles. I like to throw all the cushions on the floor and make an impromptu crash area for when I'm bored of the sofa (just like in this pic!), and I also like the sofa to look good whilst it's empty. I use this excuse for the countless throw cushions and pillows I buy!

Well that's my top five must haves when decorating, but what are yours?

Thank you so much Will for the fantastic tips! I always love your style!
