It looks beautiful like this, but if I were up for a change (which it sounds like you are) I would paint the mantle white, build out the sides by the tile (right under the mantle) with more trim and paint it white too and leave the screen black. Instant presto chang-o. Good luck! I'm sure whatever you decided to do will look beautiful!
I would definitely paint your mantle the same color as the trim in your house, then maybe opt for a different screen that isn't quite as heavy as black... or possibly add something that will sit on the tile that will help bring some white to the floor.. like white candlesticks.. or a big white vase with some painted branches... just some ideas :) Or, if you don't use the fireplace, remove the screen alltogether, and place some birch logs in the fireplace.. ok, I'm done now.
wow the mirror looks great! i agree with val's comments a couple above this one. to paint the mantle white, build out the sides so the mantle seems supported, paint that white and leave the screen black. ;)
I love the mirror, but really don't mind the pop of black of the mantle and screen. I liked the comment about that suggested adding something that would carry the white down (such as tall white candles, or a tall white vase with white branches...)
Looks so great! I can't wait to see what you decide!
I would definitely paint the mantel white. I would also add more white woodwork going down the sides of the tile. I could go either way with painting the screen.
I'd say with all your trim and accessories and paint colour, Yes to the white mantel! Maybe a softer brushed champagne or silver screen too. Go for it!
i say yes.......when you look at it as a whole........eg white mirror/tiles the mantle cuts it in half, painted white it would flow better {did that make any sense at all??????} hehehe lisa
your mirror looks amazing. the mantel painted white will brighten up the area. but i wouldn't do the screen. can't wait to see what you do (if you do it)
Oh, I love white for the mantle...I am not sure about the screen...I usually just have pillar candles or flowers in my fireplace...so I am not good with these screens! Take care, Caroline
YES!
ReplyDeleteYes! It would look super fabulous!

OH man this is tough! I think the white would look great but I also like the "pop" of black!
ReplyDeletei would paint the mantle white but leave the screen black!
ReplyDeleteYES!!! i looooove white
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with leaving them both black. If you painted them all white, it would look too matchy matchy and I think the black really pops!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...tough call...but I really LOVE your white mirror!
ReplyDeletei LOVE the white mirror - i dunno - but maybe change the tile around the matel?

ReplyDeleteI say paint the mantel but not the screen

ReplyDeleteYes to the mantle; no to the screen!
ReplyDeleteI love white, so I say YES!

I'm a little torn on the screen, but I think the mantel would look amazing in white.

ReplyDeleteWhat about red?
ReplyDeleteA pop of color?
either that or black for sure.
that mirror is gorgeous.
Yes! I painted our fireplace white...and I definitely don't regret it!
ReplyDeleteI am a white girl so I have to say yes! I LOVE that mirror!
ReplyDeleteI'd say with all your trim and accessories and paint colour, Yes to the white mantel! Maybe a softer brushed champagne or silver screen too. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteYessum sweetie! Xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI think yes

ReplyDeleteI vote YES! It would lighten up that entire area ... and look great with the existing tile.

ReplyDeleteI think white would look fantastic, and be a great contrast with that wall colour! :)
ReplyDeleteYes on the mantel, but leave the screen black. The mirror looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm the only one suggesting this, but I like silver/white combos.
ReplyDeleteSo, I think a silver (nickle) screen and a white mantle.
And ditto on the more trim for the sides.
I think you should def paint the mantel white and see how it goes with the vent before painting that too.
