It's kinda funny because lately I feel like all my conversations start with "well you know on the Nate Berkus show..." I have never been a daytime television watcher. But I LOVE his show. I dvr it and watch it at night, there are so many amazing ideas on his show!
So anyways last week he had an episode on painting and he showed how you could instantly update your kitchen by painting your cabinets YOURSELF! Normally I am not the one to shy away from a paint project but the thought of painting my own kitchen cabinets seemed like a no no. Shouldn't you pay a professional? Not according to Nate! So I am going to conquer my fears and paint them! My kitchen is so hideous and why should I wait and save up and waste all that money when I can do it myself? Right? Right!
I thought I would show you some pretty white kitchens that I dream about having before I show you the hideous freak show.
And now my hideous kitchen....
And you wonder why I haven't shown it before!
Sorry I didn't even clean it up before I took these pics.
And yes the appliances do not match.
Don't count on seeing this project completed too soon. I am right in the middle of another paint project, painting our Guest Bedroom to turn it into Evelette's big girl room! So many projects so little time!
Happy Wednesday my Luvs!

Hahahaha you are hilarious! If you want to see a freakshow of a kitchen, visit my salmon colored kitchen...:( I don't exactly know what the people before us were thinking hahaha xoxoxo
I love the kitchen with the couch in it, how fun would that be?! And i painted my kitchen in my old house white - PLUS all the trim in the whole house (the things we do). It was a monstrous project but I'm so happy that I did, it looked phenomenal. I know that we used an oil based paint...
Love the white... if you need a painting buddy, I have just the right outfit :)...
I'd love to paint my cabinets too! I'm scared to do it, though. They're only 3 years old but we didn't pick the colour and I dream of white cabinets like your dreamy inspiration pics. I can't wait to see what you do (and how you do it!).
It's not that bad!!! I love how you've accessorized it. I always find that tricky to do with kitchens because it seems like there is so much that I need easy access to that just isn't that attractive.:) I would be scared to paint the cabinets to! I paid someone to do mine & it took him nearly a WEEK to do it. I think it was because he had to take the doors off & the drawers out and then let them dry & put them back on. I think white is going to be fabulous in there & distract from the mismatched appliances.
It's nowhere near as bad as I imagined...but we have those same cabinets, so I get your feeling! (We live in an apt, so I can't paint our's...going to live vicariously through you!). Can't wait to see when they are all done!
Beautiful inspiration photos Leah. It will be fun to watch the progress. You sound like me with paint projects, tee-hee.

Great inspiration pictures! You must let us know how the painting goes... I really want to paint mine but im nervous... my parents did their own and it was less than amazing.
Oh my gosh! I am laughing hysterically over here! This kitchen is far from a freak show. Have you seen my rental kitchen cabinets?! haha! That being said, your kitchen definitely isn't your style, so I can't wait to see it after you transform it! (no pressure though lol) It would be so fabulous with white cabinets and lots of yoursignature colorful accessories!

I haven't watched his show, but I really really want to!

The kitchen with the blue couch in it is my favorite- and dream kitchen! Love the flooring in the second kitchen is beautiful!
Your kitchen is NOT hideous!! You have great potential with it! I bet you'll do fabulous!
Your kitchen is not hideous at all girl!!! and you are so creative, I'm sure you can do wonders in no time :)
XOXO

I cannot wait to see it!!!! = ) (And I can't wait to see Evelette's room!) I can totally relate to the feeling of so many projects, so little time...I feel like I'm in the middle of a project in every room of my house...
Oh I love your Kitchen - very sweet! Not hideous at all!
How fun to just be thinking about a change up. That's half the fun. Great inspiration photos. And your kitchen has incredible light. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.
it's the curse of newer construction...lack of character in the kitchen. I have it, too. If the kitchen was 10 years older, I could probably make it cool.
those kitchens are to die for! and you can totally DIY it! can't wait to see what you do~
I love a white kitchen. I definitely don't think that your kitchen is all that bad, BUT I think a coat of white paint would do wonders.
Can't wait to see it! x
I thought the same thing, that cabinets had to be refaced or replaced, that one couldn't DIY paint them. Can't wait to see how it turns out!!
Haha, this looks so much like my kitchen! I've thought about painting it too, but that project will have to wait quite a while. I am hooked on the Nate show as well!
We have similar tastes in KITCHENS...im looking at doing mine all white..SERIOUSLY. We hope to do it before the end of the year! :))) My cabinets look alot like yours now...so BLAH!

Love those inspirations photos. I can't wait to see how your kitchen turns out!
The white looks really fresh and beautiful, but I'd never be able to keep it clean!
I LOVE these kitchens...that second one might be my dream kitchen! My husband and I are hoping to buy a house soon and it's made me realize how important a kitchen is! I think yours will look great with a little paint!
First of all, your kitchen is not that bad- I was imagining much worse from your description. Secondly, yes you can totally paint them and I think they would look fabulous white- put on some gorgeous new hardware and voila, sparkly chic kitchen. Good luck and I can't wait to see it.
Your kitchen is not hideous. I was fully expecting something straight from the 80's by your description. lol While I really like your kitchen, I agree that it's not YOUR style. PS I have the same stove. lol
What you talking about Willis?! The kitchen is great and I'm sure whatever you do to spruce it up down the road will just enhance it!
White cabinets and new pulls will make all the difference in the world for your kitchen...and you can totally do it!!!
too funny! paint out the cabinets and new hardware and you'll have a new love! :) We took on our kicthen reno a few years ago and now I love it!! Feel free to check it our on my blog... http://www.desiretodecorate.com/2010/05/one-of-my-favorite-rooms-in-house.html
... or I have a slideshow of the reno scrolling on the side bar.
Our cabinets are White Tie from farrow-ball, more vanilla than white though... love it!
Ok, hideous kitchen puh-leeze! It looks great. Some white paint and fancy hardware will look great. I painted our bathroom cabinets myself and they look great. You can do it!
Cheers to you for showing the real deal! I've never actually posted my house tour (even though I love seeing everyone else's) because there are so many hideous rooms in my house. But you have me inspired! I'm totally going to do it, including all of the embarrassingly ugly stuff!
Painting out the cabinets isn't so hard. We did our kitchen cabinets in black chalkboard paint. Super cool! So I know you can do it. :) A lick of white paint and some killer hardware will totally transform that room in no time!
your kitchen's not that bad. but compared to the inspiration images, almost anyone's kitchen would look less than par. i know you'll do a great job!
Oh, you can completely transform that into a beauty in no time!!!
I'm a huge fan of white kitchens too. Yours is gonna be such a great transformation with the contrasting black counters!
Omg. You're soooooooo lucky to have that kitchen!!!!!! All you need is some paint, new appliances and good knobs!!! My kitchen is horribly cramped and made with crappy plywood covered in laminate... You have a really solid base to start with! I have to rip out my whole kitchen...
We just bought a new house with dark woodwork...my husband and I are currently in a fight because I want to paint the cabinets and all of the woodwork....at least you have his support! Go forth and show pics!
