Project- Kitchen Island
Step one... dicker price down at Goodwill.
Step two... haul it home.
Step three... sand badly scraped up dresser.
Step four... paint top white (until we can get white marble top made for it)
Step five... paint lower part pink.
Step six... needs more paint.
Step seven... persuade hubby to saw off handles (cause they are very old and someone mushroomed out the screws so they won't come off)
Step eight... paint drawers.
Step nine... replace bottom of drawers.
Done!

Monday at My Home
This weekend we finally put the last hardware on the kitchen cabinets. I told Richard that the handles remind me of silver cuff bracelets. Don't they add that certain sparkle?!
And I would also like to introduce you to our new kitchen island...
Stay tuned for the transformation!

Suzanne's new headboard
Please welcome Suzanne from So Stinkin' Cute, she is sharing her adorable new diy headboard with us today!
Luvs!
Thanks Leah...I am thrilled about guest posting here at The Way We Are! I just love your taste and the DIY's you do....I'm especially partial to your new white kitchen. A white kitchen is at the top of my "must have" list, and I am currently in the process of persuading my husband that we need a white kitchen, even though we bought our house brand spanking new, this past November. I will keep you all posted when I get my kitchen!
In the meantime, I just finished making a fabric covered, king-size headboard! It was much easier than I thought it would be, and I plan on making one for my little girl, very soon. I picked a bubble gum pink fabric from JoAnn Fabrics, of course, I waited till it went on sale. At $53.99 a yard, it would have been much more expensive! Here is the before picture
and here is the after
I'm thrilled about having a little piece of luxury in my kid-filled life! I think the pink looks great against my wall of black and white painted mirrors
it gives off a huge pop of color, and if my husband was okay with a bubble gum pink headboard, I had to go with it!
If you would like to see all the details, you can check it out here:
http://sostinkingcute.blogspot.com/2011/03/diy-upholstered-headboard-king-size.com
This is my favorite DIY I have done so far, and am having a great time decorating our home while hanging out with my kiddos. If you want to see more of my life, you can check out my blog, So Stinkin' Cute at www.sostinkingcute.blogspot.com

Fashion forward home
I am loving this fashion forward family home I found on Vogue! It's the home of Laura and Diego Garcia. She is a fashion designer and he's a rock star. What a life, right? Crazy.
Anyways their New York City home is so chic and sophisticated I immediately fell in love. I love the amazing artwork and modern eclectic style.
Enjoy!

Monday at My Home
I can't believe it is Monday already! Where does the time go? I guess I have been in the time warp that has been my daughter potty training (going really great now btw) and her having a high temp the last couple of days. We took her to the doctor today and they said she has a touch of phneumonia! Poor thing, I hate it when babies are sick. It makes me so sad, and you just feel helpless. Good thing we got some meds today so she should be feeling better soon!
On to the latest decorations in the Hill household.... You may recognize this Elk head and frame from when it used to hang over our green dresser. I simply added a coat of yellow spray paint to the frame, to tie in more of the yellow in this room. I know you are probably completely sick of seeing this room but it has been my latest obsession!
I hope you have a fabulous week and that you and yours stay healthy!

Weekend Breakfast
Something about weekend breakfasts are the absolute best to me. No one's rushing off anywhere and you can just sit down and fellowship with one another. So because of this I like to make extra yummy breakfasts!
For this weekend we are having cream cheese toast with strawberries and eggs. Very simple but super yummy!
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Good morning my sweet Luvs!
It is day number 4 of the roller coaster ride that is potty training. I am hanging in there, but I have noticed it is robbing my joy so as I tell my daughter "have a happy heart" I am determined to be a bit more go with the flow today. I think I expect so much from my sweet Evelette because she is so incredibly smart so I am not as patient with her. So if there are a few more accidents today but I still have the Joy of the Lord it will be a victorious day!
Lol okay now that my self pep talk is over on to delicious design!
Isn't this room so dreamy? I really want to find great artwork but I have the worst luck at it! What are your favorite places to find affordable cute artwork?
Have a great Thursday!
Luvs!
P.S. Aren't those wall sconces so cute? Now I know I have seen those at Goodwill before, just needing a coat of paint.

No perfection
No perfection here people!
After I posted my filing cabinet makeover I got a few comments saying how great it turned out and what tips I had. Well I gotta be honest. It in no way turned out perfect. It actually went on flawlessly, then I ran out of paint. My husband lovingly agreed to pick me up some more but he got a different kind. I thought it would be fine to just spray it all over but it started spidering everywhere. We had to sand it and then go back and get the original (better) paint. It turned out pretty well but there was still a little bit of spidering. I took some shots to show you what I'm talking about.
Here is the good paint that I used.
Another painting lesson learned, don't switch paint mid project!
Hope this helps in your future projects.

Prayer for Japan
Good morning my Luvs. I read our pastors prayer for Japan recently and I thought it would be a wonderful thing to share with you all. My Uncle and Aunt and cousins live in Japan so it is near and dear to my heart, and my heart weeps for the country as a whole. I hope you will all take the time to read this precious prayer for such a great nation.
Much Luvs!
You cannot watch what is going on in Japan and not be overwhelmed. The entire nation is seized with pain. One of the nuclear power plants that has been affected supplies energy to Tokyo so it easy to see how the entire nation is going to be radically affected by the catastrophic events of this last week.
Many of you will want to give and wonder where is the best place to invest. I believe one of the best places to invest is in the church on the ground. While the church is small in Japan, it is nevertheless strong and can link with other Christian organizations along with local agencies and government offices to effectively serve the nation and to assure that your money gets to the source to help instead of administrative costs. Churches and Christian organizations are above all else a volunteer army who cares.
If you haven't decided how you want to give yet, may I suggest you consider giving through the Saddleback Church Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
https://www.saddleback.com/giving/opportunities/japanrelief.html
We had to weep as we watched the video of that great wave hitting the precious land of Japan and then wouldn't stop coming until the growing devastation registered apocalyptic. It will be days if not weeks before we know just how massive this event will be. Yes, Japan is the nation where my wife grew up and her brothers live and yes, it is emotional for us. We pray for Japan and may I ask that you pray with us.
Father You are sovereign even when our earth shakes, the seas rise and the islands are moved out of their place. We tremble before Your power bowing in humility before Your inscrutable ways. We count ourselves helpless and in desperate need of Your care, Your guidance, Your power.
In the hurry of life, we can easily forget Your twinkling of an eye force. We are mere humans; You are God Almighty and have created a powerful universe that can sweep us away in a moment. We know that if You rewarded us according to our sin the whole world would be devoured in one fatal cataclysmic event, extinguishing all life. Yet it is not so with You. In the middle of a planet we have assassinated with our sin, Your hand perpetually holds back the devastation we all deserve.
Even now, when the earth plates crash and break against each other, even then Your hand of mercy is upon us, upon Japan. Japan is not more wicked or more deserving of what they are presently walking through. We are all deserving so we pray with humility heaped high.
And we cry for mercy, mercy for Japan. Mercy, Father. Not for what they or we deserve. But we cry for mercy. The mercy for us and the Japanese people to find You, Jesus. The mercy to see You, Jesus; the mercy to turn to You, Jesus; the mercy to know that this world is not our promised destination, but You are preparing a better inheritance and a permanent city.
Jesus, You are the sympathetic priest. You came and endured great suffering, so as our bodies suffer, our hearts can grow in faith, be healed in faith and be restored in faith. Bring faith to our hearts by Your word and promise; bring faith to Japan by Your word and promise. You told us that You would never remove trouble from this world and it will play itself out, but You also told us You would stand with us to the end. We pray that You would stand Japan on its spiritual feet and redeem the nation as a nation of faith.
In Jesus name, Amen

Monday at My Home
Totally kicking myself yet again because I forgot to take the all important before picture! Oh well, what can I do now?! We had this black filing cabinet that was just taking up room in our garage. I decided to bring it back to life by spray painting it yellow for a fun new side table in our formal living room.
What do you think of my latest spray paint creation?
Please ignore the piano area. I am contemplating doing some sort of art wall and right now it is more of a hoge poge.
Also other big news, the winner of the amazing duvet giveaway is Mudrick from Small House, Big Life. Please email me and I will get you in contact with Jessica from The Eagle's Nest! Congratulations!
