Taking it outside

I think it's time to take our attention to the outside of our homes people. Time to make our backyards our own oasis's right? Okay as much as we can with what we got right?
I am completely drooling over these outside spaces from Living Etc. They are all so cozy and welcoming!

Rocking it

I have gone back and forth on whether I want to splurge and purchase an upholstered rocker like this one here for baby boy's nursery. Or... I could go with a more modern rocker like this Eames style rocking chair from Amazon. I like that I would be able to use it in multiple rooms later on, and it takes up much less space and the price is way more reasonable at only $79! With most of the upholstered rockers that I have seen running at least $400 I think it is a very good alternative. My only reservation is the comfort, as far as nursing etc. I know that it will matter most in the beginning months and then they start nursing so fast it doesn't really matter.

I also "requested" my sister make me a sailor inspired pillow to go on it. Like these cute ones here.

With the rocker, the pillow, and the Calypso ottoman I already have, do you think I could make it work?

Memorial day at my Home

Happy Memorial day my Luvs!

We are still trying to decide what to do with a whole day off but I am sure no matter what we decide we will have a ball just being together.

My sweet hubby got me the ikea countertop for mother's day and we finally got it installed on our "kitchen island". It was only $49 compared to the $400 and upwards choice of marble and marble knockoffs. I am so excited to be able to actually use this extra countertop space now!

I hope you have a wonderful day with your families and remembering those we have lost.

Elle decor's at home with Keri Russell

After receiving my Elle decor for the month, I was totally taken away with Keri Russell's Brooklyn Brownstone home tour. What really resinated with me was the total rustic vibe paired with the completely feminine touches.

Check out this amazing crown molding and gorgeous chandelier.

I am really loving all the dark wood paired with the soft curtains, light fixture, and flowers.

Wow

One of the most frequently asked questions that I get is about the color of our dresser in my header. Which by the way is Rustoleums Painters touch spray paint in Meadow Green. And after Christie from Chic Love asked me, she sent me this pic of a dresser that she painted with the same paint.
Pretty incredible right?!!!!
Way to go Christie I LOVE!

What's Poppin

Hello my Luvs!
I am terribly sorry I missed my Monday at My Home post yesterday because quite frankly I wasn't at my home at all. I just got back from my parents farm, after spontaneously spending the night. Our family could easily stay out their for several days and not even know it, it's just one of those places you don't want to leave because there is a million fun things to do. In a way it's our own lil disneyland.

So here is Tuesday at My Home...
I decided to go with a nautical theme in baby boy's room. I am borrowing the totally amazing ship from my sister and she also loaned me the cute little sailor outfit. Thank goodness for sweet big sisters!
I got the shelf at Target and hung a few pennant pieces underneath. It needs a picture or something else on it but right now it has one of my Mom's shoes when she was a baby and a sweet little lamb vase.
I am really pleased with how it's coming along, but I would LOVE to hear what you all think too!

Touch of fun

I find myself drawn to rooms with humor and yet at the same time I adore glamour.
So when I came across this room from Vogue I was immediately smitten. Everything about this living room screams posh glitz and then you look at the turkey side chair and the golden sheep and you just smile. What's a home if you can't have a little fun with it right?!!
Happy Thursday my Luvs!

Not lacking personality

Every once in a while I like to head over to Apartment Therapy to see the latest home tours. This particular L.A. tour really caught my eye. I mean with all the stunning color and patterns how could it not? And every time I see a home so bold it makes me want to be bolder too!
Isn't this place so fun?!

Etsy Pillows

Richard and I decided with our growing family that we need some much needed extra seating. With that in mind I knew when I got a 20% off coupon from West Elm that that was the place we would find it. Not to mention that I like their sectionals the best!

We took a Saturday and went to the West Elm shop in Portland and decided on the Henry Sectional.

Now with the sectional ordered and on the way it has me thinking about pillows that would look pretty against the neutral background.
With the orange lamps that we already have in the room I thought it might be fun to run with that and get some pillows in the same color family. Here's what I found on Etsy.

Monday at My Home

The baby nursery thus far...
IMG_4398.JPG

I am in LOVE with this ottoman I found at Target from their new Calypso line! I am thinking it will be a great stool for Evie and for Mama's feet.

Richard painted the room, and I painted the curtians and round mirror. I also sewed the pennant but I am not sure if it will stay up or not.

So worth it

Yesterday was a whirlwind! No joke I spent probably 6 hours on my hands and knees working on these chevron curtains! I just kept thinking about the day when I can bring baby boy home to this cute room with the curtains I made for him! I am really proud of myself too, becuase I usually have my husband or one of my brothers help me with the math and measuring and what not but everyone was busy. So I did it ALL by myself. As I tell Evie "Your such a big girl"!

To tell you the truth I am not sure how I did it. There was a whole lot of measuring and connecting the dots I marked with tape. And then I used regular paint (which most would use fabric paint, I just didn't want to buy anymore paint and I wanted it to match the mirror I painted for the room) and used the "blotting technique" with a paint brush.

I feel really bad I can't give you better directions! It was so chaotic with watching my sweet babe and nephew at my Moms house. And to top it off the paint leaked through to my Mom's floor! Yikes! I just wiped it down with fingernail polish and it came right off. Thanks Mom for letting me do my crazy projects at your house!

Chevron curtains

Hello my Luvs!

Today I am going to try and paint my own chevron curtains for the baby room. I am really crossing my fingers and hoping they will turn out like this....

Monday at My Home

It's the start of a new week and to tell the truth Evie and I are always a tad sad on Mondays because Papa has to go back to work. But at least I can look at our pretty recovered chairs that he helped me with. I recovered them and he screwed them back in. The wood that they used in the bottom of the chairs was cheap so when I first recovered them I accidently striped out the wood, making it very hard to keep the screws in. Luckily he was able to use wood filler and longer screws and that seemed to do the trick. What would we do without you lover?!

Mother's day was so wonderful except for the fact that poor baby girl came down with a cold. We took turns staying home with her so she could get plenty of rest. Richard went to church with his Mom and then my whole family pitched in to help clean my Moms house. After some good elbow greese was used I came home to homemade caesar salad with homemade croutons that Richard and Evie had made together. Isn't that too precious? Evie was so excited to show me what they had done and she kept saying "happy birthday" instead of Happy Mothers day. So sweet!

Okay enough of me gushing, ; ) here's the recovered kitchen chairs. I used a pleather instead of a vinyl, both wipe up easily but pleather is a bit softer.
Didn't they turn out fun?
