Coat rack or bird cage?

In the entryway in our house we have a bench with pictures hanging over it and that is it. I was thinking it would be fun to either put a coat rack or a bird cage (painted of coarse) next to it. The coat rack would be practical but the bird cage would be more interesting. But would you even put anything in it? What do you all think?

Of course I pick the bird cage, anything out of the normal for the Bumpkin

The idea of the birdcage is absolutely fabulous ... Of course, it's definitely not the more functional of the two. Anything put into the birdcage would probably have to be purely aesthetic. I'm sure there are some creative things you could do with a coat rack, though! Paint, for one, is an easy way to add creativity to an otherwise blah-blah piece. Perhaps painting a cool pattern or design?

you can put a plant in the birdcage ... something out of the ordinary though.

I like the idea of a birdcage! I think you should get a really decorative one and hang it from a pretty shepherd's hook or something. Put a real bird in it! Wouldn't Evelette love that??

What a darling blog... I might be rocking the boat, but I say paint the coat rack a fun color and have that in your entry bc it will be functional too.

What about getting a birdcage w/o the stand and hang it from the ceiling somewhere above the coat rack?
